Case erectors as part of a case filling process or as free standing case erectors.

Forming a case from a flat knocked down (KD) form in a manufacturing or packaging environment requires a machine called a case erector. A case erector or case former takes the flat package and with vacuum suction pulls the sides apart until it has the rectangular shape of the case. The bottom end flaps first and the side flaps next are folded over and sealed with tape or glue. This forms the case with the top flaps open and, if designed right will stand up vertically.

Case erectors are designed to form cases in a given size range. It is, therefore, important to anticipate possible future needs when purchasing a case former. Also, it is important to consider whether the case erector will be used in a free standing mode or will at some point be tied with a case filling machine.

The names case erector or case former are for the same type of machine. When searching on the internet, the search engines confuse the keyword “case former “ with legal ”case forming” articles. Therefore, “case erector” gives the preferred information.
